Smyrna, GA, July, 2020 –  In an effort to help the local Fulton County, Downtown Atlanta, and Gwinnett County homeless community, Mark Lavene, Vice President of Marketing  Sale and Service of Ford Motors, was at Wade Ford on Wednesday, July 8th to donate $30,000 to Hope Thru Soap. Hope Thru Soap is a local non-profit organization that provides a mobile shower experience to the less fortunate and homeless in Atlanta. The organization provides homeless or poverty-stricken individuals and families with showers, haircuts, clothing, and food in different parts of the city through their mobile setup. “We’re excited to have this opportunity to give back and make this happen at Wade Ford,” said Mike Barlow, General Manager at Wade Ford. “As Atlanta’s Ford Dealer, we’re proud to support a local organization that helps those most impacted by the pandemic get back on their feet and brighten their day.” To learn more about Hope for Soap and their upcoming initiatives, visit their website at HopeForSoap.org.

If you are looking for a new place to explore, check out these five great options near Atlanta. Atlanta Beltline The Atlanta Beltline is at 100 Peachtree Street, NW. This is an excellent location to enjoy outdoor fitness activities like running and biking. If you are up for a more organized exploration of the area, join one of the official tours. There are three different types of tours offered; bike, bus, and arboretum walking tours. Each gives you a different view of the Beltline. There is also a sunset walking tour offered on Tuesday evenings during the summer along the Eastside Trail. more Centennial Olympic Park Revisit the site of the 1996 Olympic Summer Games with a visit to Centennial Olympic Park. While you are on the grounds, take the audio tour for a more in-depth look at the location. The park is an excellent place for a midday picnic. Don't forget to check out the Fountain of Rings show that plays four times daily. Piedmont Park Piedmont Park offers you a chance to escape the city without leaving city limits. The park is home to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. It is also the host of a wide variety of festivals. On Saturdays through November, visit the farmer's market before exploring this beautiful natural setting. There are areas in the park dedicated to dogs. While in the three-acre dog park, dogs may run free. Yet in other areas, they must remain on a leash. Stone Mountain Park Escape the hustle and bustle of Atlanta and explore Stone Mountain Park. It is only 15 miles from the city. During your visit, enjoy a variety of nature trails for hiking and biking. There is a playground for young visitors. If you wish to explore more, you can take the one-mile trail to the summit for some breathtaking views. If you like to relax on the water, rent a canoe and head for the 363-acre lake on the property. The lake is also available for fishing. Don't forget to pack a picnic and take advantage of one of the many wooded picnic areas. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park Explore the outdoors and learn about important American history at the same time. The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park is located around his birth home. Visitors can take a tour of the house on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon through the end of September. This is one of the most popular sites in Atlanta, so arrive early. The location is wheelchair accessible. During your visit, you can visit the birth home of Dr. King, as well as the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church and fire station number six. You can also explore the World Peace Rose Garden located near the visitor center. There is no cost to visit this National Historical Park. Don't forget to remain weather aware while you enjoy these locations. Bring a camera to capture candid moments, but make sure it is adventure proof so you can enjoy yourself.

Fishing has a long history of being a relaxing and fun activity that you can do alone or in a group. There are many places to fish, especially around Atlanta. The trick is to know where you should fish to find the one that you want. If you are into fishing, check out these great fishing places near Atlanta. Lakes Burton If you want to catch the best fish, travel a bit north of Atlanta. There, you will find the Tallulah River Watershed. It travels along the original route of the Tallulah River and there are six lakes along its path. Lake Burton is one of the closest and gives you the chance to catch some of the biggest fish around. The lake is surrounded by luxury homes and resorts. Plus, the lake has a history of housing record-breaking fish. If you go there, be prepared to catch something larger than you expected. more Lake Rabun Another great option is Lake Rabun, which is also in the Tallulah River Watershed. Lake Rabun is a reservoir that houses many species of fish and other wildlife. It is nearly 835 miles long with 25 miles of easily accessible shoreline. That way, you can choose the perfect spot for you. If you are looking for a place to stay, check out the Lake Rabun Hotel and Restaurant. It has been there since 1922 and offers a nearby place to rest after a long day of fishing. Lake Seed Lake Seed is one of the smaller lakes in the Tallulah River Watershed, at just 243-acres and 13 miles of accessible shoreline. If you want a place that is less visited, but still has the local amenities that you want, check out Lake Seed. There are waterfront homes and other amenities to choose from. There is also a nearby campground. That way, you can spend the day fishing and then walk back to your campsite for a good night's rest. It is a great way to get away from the city and relax for a while. Fishing can be a great way to relax, especially if you need to get away from the city for a while. There are many more places, including other lakes north of Atlanta. Nearly all of those places allow fishing and watercraft, so you will never have to miss a fishing trip. If you plan on going fishing, make sure that you take an appropriate vehicle with you. The area around the lakes can be wet, muddy, and harder to drive on when you get close. Check out some of these oddball places in and around the city. Georgia Guidestones The Georgia Guidestones are a family-friendly site to explore in Elberton on Georgia Highway 77. The site is free and open year round. It contains a series of 19-foot high panels. They display a 10-part message in twelve different languages. The origin of the monument is a mystery because no one knows who sponsored its creation. more The Krog Street Tunnel The Krog Street Tunnel is one of the few family-friendly oddball places in the area. It is the home of an evolving amount of street art. Some of the things you may see include a variety of spray-painted marriage proposals and a variety of festival flyers. The tunnel is at 86 Krog Street, Northeast. It is between the Cabbagetown and Inman neighborhoods of the city. CDC Museum Are you interested in different types of medicine? Do you like to know the history of specific ailments? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters is in Atlanta. The CDC runs a museum dedicated to a history of different medical illnesses. It is free to enter however, you must bring a government-issued ID to prove you are over the age of 18. It is open five days a week, closed on the weekends and holidays. Doll's Head Trail Are you looking for a unique place to walk or jog? Follow the Doll's Head Trail. It starts a few miles from downtown, in Constitution Lakes Park. As you get your exercise, keep an eye out for unique art pieces along the trail, many of which include doll heads in various locations like mailboxes. The trail frequently changes as its creator encouraged visitors to add their unique art to the area. You may want to bring a camera on this adventure so you can take pictures to show your friends and family. The trail is relatively flat, but, because of the art, may not be appropriate for children. Tank Town USA Have you ever wondered what it was like to drive a tank? Here's your chance! Tank Town USA  is located at 1048 Appalachian Highway in Morganton, GA. Reservations are highly recommended because the location is quite busy. While you are at the site, you can drive one of the many working tanks on the property. Some of them have machine guns. Drivers must at least have a driver's permit. No children under the age of seven are allowed in the tanks. The price of your adventure depends on which you want to do. You can drive a tank to crush cars, through a course, or drive an excavator. Passengers are allowed in the tanks, but not on the construction equipment. Invite your friends or family members to explore the locations with you. Some of the locations are family-friendly while others are not. The store has large barrels full of candy and can show kids what general stores were like a long time ago. Farmview Market If you are really into food, then you should check out the Farmview Market in Madison, Georgia. Nearly all of the products you can find here are made or grown in Georgia by local producers. It is a great way to show kids what it is like to have a business, learn about farms, and to experience a farmer's market. Wild Adventures Theme Park You can also take your kids to check out Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta, Georgia. It has water play areas to help you stay cool and other rides for added excitement. There are shows and concerts here as well, so there is something that everyone will enjoy. Plus, there are roller coasters for adults and kids, so that everyone can enjoy a thrill ride. Georgia Aquarium If you want a more educational trip, check out the Georgia Aquarium. Here your kids will be able to learn about local wildlife, as well as conservation efforts. The aquarium is one of the largest in the country and it is planning to expand soon. The new area will feature a shark exhibit so that people can learn more factual information about them, rather than what they hear in movies or shark stories. Exploring Georgia for a day is relaxing and educational. Your kids will appreciate the chance to get out of the house and you'll have a chance to build lasting memories. We took some time to get to know Danny a little better by asking him some interesting questions. Get to know Danny Pereira by reading the interview below. more How long have you been at Wade Ford? Wow… I’ve been here for a little over 25 years. It’ll be 26 years in July. How did you get into the automotive industry? I’ve always loved cars, especially Fords. When my daughter was born, I knew I had to find a career and decided to try a new field. I started as a sales rep at Charlie Thomas Ford in Houston, TX in 1986. I’ve always sold Fords. Where are you from? I was born in Uruguay and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. I moved to the United States at age 4 in May of 1963. I’ll never forget it. Do you speak any other languages? Yes, as a child I spoke Spanish at home and English in school. Technically English is my second language. It’s so much easier to learn multiple languages as a kid. What values are important to you? The most important things to me are Honesty, Integrity, Commitment and Family. What is something about you that would surprise people? A lot of people don’t know I’m a glass engraver. I’ve done custom orders for friends, family, and even some of my co-workers. I even have a whole workshop set up in my garage. I love it! What do you do for fun when you’re not at work? I enjoy playing tennis, spending time with my family, and going on joy rides. What’s on your Bucket List? Traveling to Paris and Italy. I have a bunch of Paris inspired art and sculptures at home, but I’ve never been. Haha If I ever find the time to travel, that’s where I’d go. What do you drive? I have a 2016 White Stingray Corvette, but I never drive it. I call it my retirement car. Today I drove a 2018 Ford Explorer. I got both vehicles from Wade Ford. What is your dream car? It’s in my garage. Haha Other than my Corvette, I’d have to say a Porsche 911 Carrera S. I love Porsches and Mustangs. What is the best part about working at Wade Ford? At Wade Ford we’re always striving to do better and be better for our customers. You just don’t get that everywhere else. I also love the family and comradery of the organization. The Atlanta climate can heat up quick. With average highs at 80 or above from May through September, you have a long stretch of potentially warm weather to contend with. As the sun beats down on your vehicle, temperatures inside can peak at more than 200 degrees. No one likes to sweat it out in a sweltering vehicle, so try these tips to keep your car cool and comfortable, no matter the weather. Use a Sun Shade Sun shades might seem kitschy, but they're actually very effective. Pop up a reflective shade when you park and turn the reflective side to face the interior. Blocking sunlight from the steering wheel, seat belt buckles, and other key surfaces will lower their temperature dramatically, sometimes by as much as 50 degrees. Where you might have burned your hands before, you'll now be able to touch your vehicle safely. Whether you go simple or silly with your design, a sun shade is a functional feature that will keep your car far more comfortable. more Push Hot Air Out Before getting into a hot parked vehicle, fan some of the warm air out. Roll down the passenger side window, and fan the driver's side door by opening and closing it quickly. This pushes air through the car and out the opposite side. The stifling air that's built up inside the vehicle should make its way out the other side quickly and efficiently. This is a fast way to cool down your car before driving, though you might garner some unusual looks as you do it. Cool Down Your Seats Sitting on hot car seats can lead to unsightly sweat stains over long rides. Keep yourself comfortable by keeping your seats cooler. Cloth seats are more comfortable than leather in hot weather, so keep this in mind when you're buying a new vehicle. Some new vehicles up the ante in this area by featuring air-conditioned seats, which circulate cool air through a porous mesh fabric. If you already have leather seats, consider using a cloth seat cover or towel during the hottest months of the year. Cooling gel cushions are available for your car seats, as well, though you'll want to keep these in the house when they're not in use to maintain their efficacy. Use Your Air Conditioner Right Get the best performance from your car's air conditioner by turning it on full blast when you first start the vehicle. Drive with your windows down for the first 10 to 20 minutes to allow hot air to escape while your AC system pumps cooler air in. When you've reached a comfortable temperature in the car, roll your windows up and set the air conditioner to use recirculating air. This will keep your space as chilled as possible. With these smart tactics, you can battle the worst of the summer weather effectively while you're confined to your car. Stay comfortable on the road so your vacations aren't hindered by the heat. Spring is in the air, and it's time to get outside and enjoy it. Here are some annual events to enjoy at this time of year. Spring Jonquil Festival The jonquil is a yellow bulbous flower found throughout the Southeast. The city of Smyrna celebrates this plant annually with a weekend festival April 27-29 and features a crafts fair, entertainment, and children's activities. In 2018, over 175 arts and crafts booths manned by artisans from throughout the Southeast were filled with paintings, clothing, furniture, jewelry, and other crafts. A grizzly bear show, interactive bird show, an escape artist, and robocars were among the family activities available at The Village Green. Admission is free. SweetWater 420 Fest Ready for some music? The SweetWater 420 Fest is three days of music and craft beer (the event's sponsor is a brewer), with a 5-kilometer run, charity more auction, and other activities offered. During April 19-21, more than 45 acts are scheduled to perform on four stages in Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park in 2019. The festival started 15 years ago as an Earth Day celebration, and sustainability is still a focus with an area called Planet 420 offering workshops where you can learn how to be more eco-friendly. There's also an artists market offering various crafts and a food village. There is an admission charge, with tickets sold in advance. Atlanta Film Festival On April 4-14, this 10-day event at locations around the downtown Atlanta area features more than 150 films, including documentaries, animation, foreign films, narratives, experimental films, and local productions. The festival, started in 1976, includes awards ceremonies and workshops where movie fans can meet and mingle with those in the business. Admission badges may be purchased for all or parts of the festival, or tickets may be purchased for single movies. Atlanta Jazz Festival While this free-to-the-public festival takes place over two days on May 25-26 in Atlanta's Piedmont Park, the lead-up to it covers the month of May, with more than 100 jazz artists performing at various locales, including city parks, and even some MARTA transit stations. It all comes together on Memorial Day weekend with national and local artists performing on three stages and vendors offering crafts, food, and drink for sale. Among the national artists who have graced its stages since its start in 1977 are Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Spyro Gyra, Hiroshima, Ray Charles, Arturo Sandoval, Freddy Cole, Herbie Hancock, Hugh Masekela, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Al Green, McCoy Tyner, Diane Schuur, and Gail Simone. Smyrna Earth Day Festival This first-time event aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and present ways that individuals can make a difference on April 13. It promises speakers, performances, and an eco-fashion show at Tolleson Park. Admission is free. If you were looking for an excuse to get out this spring, you now have a few. Chattahoochee Nature Center Located just a 20-minute drive north of Atlanta, the local nature center is part of Roswell's historic district, which features 640 acres of beautiful old houses and historic buildings, such as churches, monuments, or museums. A great way to introduce kids to the joy of spending time outdoors, this place has enough attractions to keep them entertained and interested throughout the day. Spanning over 127 acres of land, its mystical trails will reveal all of Georgia's most beautiful plants, as well as different species of wildlife. They aim to instill children with a lifelong passion for nature with interactive programs that are meant to be fun and educational experiences. Visitors can set up camp within the nature center and spend several days there, as the multitude of things to see and interactive programs for both kids and adults are sure to keep everyone interested. Andretti Indoor Karting and Games Learning about the world around us by interacting with science and nature is fun and useful for kids, but nothing gets their hearts racing and uses up their huge amounts of energy like some adrenaline-packed fun. This kart racing and entertainment complex offers just that, mainly through their amazing indoor racing circuit that your kids will want to spend hours on. The complex also features an elevated ropes course, a spectacular 7D motion theater, over 100 arcade games and racing simulators, laser tag, a zip line, and a bowling alley, among many others. The Andretti Grill and Sky Bar are available for moments when visitors get hungry or thirsty. Do you have a family with a variety of tastes? The city of Smyrna has you covered. Check out one of the best buffets in town, where everyone can create their perfect meal. Atlantic Buffet This buffet caters to the seafood lovers. Located on Cobb Parkway, the restaurant is open seven days a week. Every day except for Friday, they open at 11:00 in the morning and close at 9:30 at night. Friday they stay open until 10:30 p.m. Some of the selections here include southern favorites like coconut shrimp and crawfish. They also serve Japanese options such as sushi and salmon fish eggs. Chow King Grill and Buffet more Chow King Grill and Buffet is on Cobb Parkway. This location is open seven days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. They offer lunch and dinner buffets all week as well as brunch on the weekend. Some of the highlights include a hibachi section as well as sushi. A noodle bar is available for you to create your bowl. On the main buffet is a mix of Chinese, American, and kid-friendly favorites. Kids enjoy French fries and hot dogs. If you want American flavors mixed in your meal, you can choose from ribs, BBQ, and homemade potatoes. The Chinese menu includes favorites like lo mein, fried rice, egg rolls, pepper steak, and sesame chicken. Goianado Restaurant Are you looking for a unique take on the buffet experience? Check out the Brazilian-inspired Goiando Restaurant. Located at Terrell Mill Road, this buffet is a trip to Brazil without the passport. The buffet has a flat rate cost of $11.99 during the week and $13.99 on the weekend. You also have the option of getting take-out by the pound. You can have an American soda, or try one from Brazil. On the weekend, you can enjoy the food from 11:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday. They offer two different lunch specials: any two Maki rolls for $9.49 and three rolls for $13.49. The rolls come with miso soup and salad. Some of the rolls include a California roll, crab roll, shrimp avocado roll, and cucumber roll. They also have a sushi bar lunch special that consists of four pieces of sushi, four of sashimi, and a California roll for $13.95. Dinner options include their all-you-can-eat buffet for $19.99.
