Now in its 55th year on American roads, the Ford Mustang remains an iconic sports car and a symbol of American muscle around the globe. This year, the BULLITT Mustang from the famous Steve McQueen flick adds another dimension to the Mustang lineup, but it’s packed with features and head-turning beauty that make it a contender for sports car of the year yet again. With speed, opulence, and looks to kill, the 2019 Ford Mustang just might be the coolest thing on four wheels.
Power
The 2019 Ford Mustang comes with three engine options to propel you to new heights. A 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo-four is the standard engine, and although it has only four cylinders, it packs quite a punch with 310 horsepower.
An upgrade to the 5.0-liter V-8 is a solid decision if it’s in your budget. With 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, this beast can go from zero to 60 in just 4.3 seconds, go from zero to 100 in 9.7 seconds, and hit the quarter-mile in only 12.6 seconds. You probably won’t ever hit the top speed of 155 mph, but if you find a track willing to let you air out the Mustang’s power, get ready for an adrenaline ride.
The BULLITT
If you haven’t seen 1968’s “Bullitt”, all you need to know is that it contains one of the greatest car chase scenes in cinematic history. The scene shows Lt. Frank Bullitt, played by Steve McQueen, on a chase in his Shelby Mustang through the heart of San Francisco. Many directors point to this chase as an influence on their later work.
Fans of the movie or those that love upper-tier sports cars will love the 2019 Mustang BULLITT. Modeled after the car from the movie but with a modern twist, this car is unlike anything else. Under the hood, it gets a mighty 5.0-liter V-8 that’s been upgraded to produce 480 horsepower. You might not want to push it out to the 163 mph top speed or reenact the chase scene through downtown San Francisco, but it’s nice to know you can if you want to.
Exterior Beauty
It’s hard to put the look of the 2019 Ford Mustang into words, but it’s best described as exotic, modern, and sleek. The aerodynamic body is where form meets function, allowing the Mustang to glide effortlessly along the road. Chrome accents and a quad exhaust add a touch of flair, while 18-inch to 20-inch wheels provide some bling that allows this pony to rival any of the big horses in the industry. Plus, you can make your pony stand out with vibrant colors such as Orange Fury, Velocity Blue, Need for Green, or the classic Ruby Red.
Whether you have an insatiable need for speed, a genuine love of engineering, or some mix between the two, the 2019 Ford Mustang answers the call, filling the void that only a Mustang can fill. Maybe that’s why this year’s model seems like an instant classic.
