As you might expect in an older model, the horsepower and torque of the Ford Ranger weren’t much to look at by today’s standards. It had a 2.3L 4cyl engine that gave 80 horsepower. There were 4 trims for this pickup truck; base, XL, XLS, and XLT. If you had driven a Ford Ranger back then, you’d only have 2 options for wheelbase and bed; a 108-inch wheelbase truck with a 6-foot bed, or a 114-inch wheelbase truck that had a 7-foot bed. There were actually three transmission options; the standard was a 4-speed manual transmission. The other two optional transmissions were a 5-speed manual or a 3-speed automatic. The 1983 4x4 Ford Ranger could haul 1,600 pounds, which actually wasn’t too shabby.
